This may seem a bit redundant, but to really be successful at weight loss you have to want it. To really want it you have to go above just saying you want it, you have to commit to weight loss. The best way to commit to losing weight is to build a goal and jot it down.

A goal does not have to be in terminology of losing weight. Instead you could write your goal as measurements or body fat % lost or even clothing size. Make your goal reachable and quantifiable. Write it in terms that you can relate to and review often. For instance your goal can be ?I want to drop 2 dress sizes by the end of the year? or ?I want to lose 5% body fat in 4 months? or ?I want to weigh 135 pounds by this New Year’s Eve?.

Plan smaller goals that you can use along the way to ensure you are on schedule to achieve your final goal. Track your goals and your improvement by using weight loss tools such as a calorie chart, exercise chart or weight loss chart. Search for or develop a weight loss journal. Journalizing is a great way to track your foods, water, workouts and feelings for the day and a wonderful method for you to stay committed to your weight loss.

Learned habits can be hard to let loose. Let’s face it, some things we do are because we have always done them that way. This is the time to change. Get rid of the idea that you have to eat it all. If you are in the ?baby boomer? age then you know what I am talking about. We were led to believe to finish our plates and could not leave the kitchen until they were clean.

Well that was then this is now. Instead of scarfing it down stop when you are full. Take smaller portion sizes and if you are still hungry go back for seconds but make it a smaller piece. Experts say people who eat in front of the T.V. tend to eat bigger servings. This is primarily because of being focused on the boob tube and not focused on what you are consuming.

So take your meal out ofaway from} the family room and into the kitchen. Take advantage of this time to not only eat better and wiser but to find out how the kids are doing in school. By using your eating time as a nice family time you are also slowing down your eating. This will allow your stomach time to tell your brain that you are full and will likely consume fewer calories.

If it is out of the question to stay away from tempting foods, then just remove these from harms way. The old saying ?out of sight, out of mind? may just do the trick for you. Go through your cabinets and fridge and throw it out. Replace the too sweet or too fatty foods with the right foods. Sugar free jell-o is a wonderful way to get your sweet tooth satisfied without piling on the calories. Instead of potato chips get low fat popcorn.

Try going your first two weeks with no unhealthy snacks at all. You will be surprised at how your yearnings will fade by going without for a few weeks. Have a bag of carrots or celery near by. These veggies help gratify the need to crunch on something and are low in calories.

Weight loss is a monstrous challenge for many of us, so go it on your own. Look for a weight loss support group online or on-site or start your own support group. All of the really successful weight loss companies offer a groups or one on one support.

But if you are planning to go without a weight loss plan then create your own support plan by including friends, family members, coworkers and neighbors. Your group can be as big or as small as you need. Let everyone know you are embarking on a weight loss journey and ask for their support and encouragement.

In order to make sure you are on the right road to reaching your goals you need to record your progress. By recording how you are doing you can make modifications as needed to ensure you keep losing weight and reach your goals.

Keep track of the foods you eat and how many calories you have in a day. Track your exercise routines and how many calories you burned during exercise. This will help ensure you create a calorie deficit for losing weight. Measure or weigh yourself once a week and record your weight. Review your progress and weigh against your goal. If you see your progress headed in the wrong direction, make adjustments to your foods and/or workout routines.

You need a variety of foods to keep your meals interesting and fun. Don’t burn yourself out by eating the same things day in and day out. Eat from all the food groups by including whole grains, protein, dairy, fats and veggies and fruits.

Try eating 5 to 6 mini meals every day to help your metabolism stay energized. Eat protein with each meal by including lean cuts of meat and fish and beans and eggs in your diet plan. Aim for 5 ? 9 servings a day of vegetables and fruits. Make your choices colorful by having dark green leafy veggies, red or orange peppers, etc. Vary your fruit selection as well consuming citrus fruits and non-citrus fruits.

Your dairy products should be fat free and low fat choices. Make your bread and pasta selections whole grains. The complex carbohydrates and high fiber in whole grain breads and cereals help to speed up your metabolism. Additionally you want to consume some the good fats in your food selection. This is because your body needs some vital fatty acids from the foods you eat as it cannot make these fats itself. Just read the labels and choose foods that have the healthy fats and try to eliminate or reduce trans fats.

Several people do not track or think about the amount of calories in their beverages. A regular flavored cola has more than 100 calories and 10 teaspoons of sugars. Fruit drinks are also high in sugar and calories. Switch to diet drinks and drink more green tea and water.

Watch the alcohol consumption as well. A lot of alcoholic drinks are high in calories and alcohol tends to turn to fat and sugar in your body. You should try to eliminate or reduce your alcohol intake while trying to lose weight. However, if you have a special occasion, beer and wine are lower calorie drinks.

As you continue on your weight loss journey there will be times when you need a sweet treat. If you let your cravings go unchecked for too long then there is a good chance it will overcome you and lead to “binge eating”. So go ahead and treat yourself to that tempting snack once in awhile.

Moderation is the key here. It’s okay to sneak a snack and not feel bad. Just make sure it doesn’t become a common thing but is just every now and then change from your diet. One of the main reasons people stop strict diets is their constant cravings eventually gets the better of them. So go ahead and give in and make your snack small but enough to calm your sweet tooth. Then get right back on track with your weight loss journey.

There are a lot of people who are exercise fanatics and then there are those people who flinch at the very word exercise. However, if you want to lose weight, and here’s the important part, keep it off then you need to include exercise to your weight loss plan.

By exercising you are burning excess fat and calories. You are also increasing lean muscle mass. The more lean muscles you have the higher your basal metabolic rate (BMR). The higher your metabolism the more calories and fat you burn in a given day.

If you are just starting out, then start slow by going for a brisk walk 20 minutes 3 times a week. Also add some strength training 2 or 3 times a week. As you get used to this workout routine then improve your speed and duration. Increase the resistance during your strength training as well. It doesn’t matter what you start with just so long as you start to get active.

Realistic Weight Loss Goals Per Month

Alright, so here’s the deal.

I’m a 23 year old male in generally good health. I just had a checkup today and I weighed in at 220 pounds. I am 5’9″, and carry my weight pretty well. I’ve never had any weight-related problems, but I feel that I really need to lose some pounds. I’m married and have a 10-month daughter, so I want to be as healthy as possible for my family.

I am a person who likes to deal with facts — hard numbers and concrete goals. I’ve mapped out a tentative plan to be at my ideal weight – 180 lbs – by July 1st (about 20 1/2 weeks from now). This works out to be about 2 pounds per week, which I believe is reasonable. Am I correct?

I plan on running every morning before work — which will become easier to do once it is warmer outside. I have already stopped drinking soda and fast food. I work at an office and am at a computer most of the day — I pack my lunch most of the time, which is usually Lean Cuisine.

Does anyone have any good advice or ideas? Thanks!

That is fairly reasonable. A good goal for sustainable weight loss is 1% of your body weight per week.

Only eat half of what you normally eat. Place 1 / 2 on the plate, and put the rest. Cook less. When you go to fast food, get salads only. Or grilled chicken. No no fries, only diet soda. Or the water. It will work once you get into a routine, you will be hooked on the results, and will continue the routine. It has been more a year for me. Also start counting your calories. Write them down. You will be amazed at how much more aware you are of your caloric intake, if you really is written. Are these Nintendo DS games fun?

Okay, So I’m asking for a DS Lite for Christmas, and I’ll get a few games…. I made a list of games that look interesting & fun. I’m not planning on asking for ALL of them, but I put down the ones that looked the best.

If you have any of these games, do you like it? Can I have a mini review?

You’re a girl I take it, so I’ll try not to mini-review the games that you’ve picked out too harshly. It’s not that they are bad games mind you, I’m just a guy with different gaming interests. I will try to help you decide nonetheless.

I play a lot of games and keep up on the news about new games being made every day, but I’ve never even heard of Burger Island. Games so low on the radar that they don’t even get talked about usually aren’t worth your money, but I could be wrong.

Mario Party games are a decent bet that you’ll be entertained for the first few games, but I dunno if you’ll make it a habit of playing it.

Pictoimage could just as easily be played without a DS. It’s charades in videogame form as far as I can tell.

I won’t tell you not to pick any of these games up, but from what I’ve heard there’s not much content to these games. They do what the title tells you I suppose, so if you’re sold on those ideas, give them a try.

It’s essentially a workout routine on your DS, and not really a game. If you’re wanting to learn a bit about Yoga, it might be worth checking out.

You can find this game for free on the PC I think, so you’re better off asking for something you can’t get online.

Essentially the same thing as the Let’s Yoga game. The game gives you a list of activities to do, but it won’t know if you’re actually doing them. Not long ago, I baught My Word Coach to see if it was any good, and it does exactly what the title implies. Give it a shot if weight loss is something you’re intrested in.

Again, this is another game I’ve never even seen or heard of. It could be fun for you, but I’d suggest one of the other games over this just in case.

I’ve heard good things about this series. Try it.

If it interests you, go for it. This series is apparently really popular.

This is probably the best game on the list so far. I have no doubt you’d like it.

I know this wasn’t on the list, but Advance Wars: Dual Strike is such a fun game that I had to mention it. It’s the best game on the DS in my opinion.

You go to your doctor’s office for a routine check-up. Everything is fine but your cholesterol is a little high. The doctor wants to put you on medication because lowering your cholesterol will significantly reduce your risk of heart attack and stroke. Sounds good until you get to the pharmacy and realize this will cost you a hundred dollars a month, for life. Why would my doctor prescribe a medication for me that is going to cost $1,200 a year? Why didn’t he choose something a little cheaper? Why didn’t he tell me about eating better and exercising?

Your doctor will go through a thought process before prescribing your medication. Some of it is based on age, sex, race, weight, experience, and other medical conditions. You may be surprised to find out that some of his decision may be based on the “attention” he receives from the drug companies. The term attention is used to refer to the many number of gifts or freebees given to the doctors for prescribing certain medication.

The billion dollar drug manufacturers know how to influence your doctor into prescribing their drug. In years gone by, the gifts given to doctor were pretty extravagant. I’ve heard stories of a leased car, an Alaskan cruise, and untold free rounds of golf. Recently, the companies have come to a “gentleman’s agreement.” They discovered the gifts were getting out of control with each company trying to one-up the other. The free items were reduced significantly to pens, pencils, pads, clocks, and anything else you can use in a doctor’s office. Look around the office; everything has a drug name on it.

The manufacturers have now gotten clever again and give away free continuing education, or CEs. These are something every health professional must have in order to keep his or her license active. They are usually sponsored by drug companies. When a doctor has been prescribing the company’s drug, the representative may give him a ticket to a continuing education seminar. The seminar is usually held in a nice vacation area like Miami, New York, San Diego, or even Hawaii. Everything is paid for; flight, hotel, and rental car. All the doctor has to do is attend the seminar to get his credits. The CE credits are important and keep health professionals up to date on the latest therapies, but they are also held locally. The fact that they are held in these exotic locations is the bonus for prescribing the medications.

You may be wondering how the drug manufacturer’s representative knows how many prescriptions the doctor is writing. The manufacturers print up a prescription pad with everything on it including the medication for the doctor to sign. All that is needed is a signature. The pads have a sequential number printed on them. So when the representative returns weeks later, all he has to do is look at the next number to know how many prescriptions have been written.

He will also drop off free samples for the doctor to give away to his patients. Your doctor will give you free samples to get you started on the medication. The companies know once you start, you will probably stay on the medication for a long period of time. So giving away a little bit of medication up from will pay off in big profits at the end.

When your doctor has the decision to make in regards to the medication he will prescribe, do you think these gifts are in the back of his mind? Now he has to decide whether to prescribe the less expensive generic or the more expensive brand and possibly get some freebees. The more expensive brand name drugs he prescribes, the more gifts, freebees, and “vacation CE” he receives. The more free samples he gives out, the better he looks in his patient’s eyes, and the better he looks in the manufacturer’s eyes. But you, the patient, will be spending money at the pharmacy for months buying the expensive brand drug.

The purpose of this article is not to decide whether this method of drug selection is immoral. Your doctor is supposed to choose the right medication for your condition. The fact that he is getting a reward for prescribing expensive medication has to be an issue.The next time you get a prescription from your doctor, ask him about a less expensive generic. Just about every medication has an alternate that is available in generic form. The generics will always be cheaper. In prescription drugs, it is definitely not; “you get what you pay for.” Less expensive generics must work just like the more expensive brand name drugs. By using generics, you will spend less money every month.
